Assault Weapons Ban

Should the Assault Weapons Ban be reinstated? Or is it a violation of the right to bear arms?

Since the ban has expired, the following guns can now be purchased in the U.S., though some of them are illegal to import into America:

AK-47 and all models of the Norinco, Mitchell and Poly Technologies Avtomat Kalashnikovs, designed in the former Soviet Union.
Uzi and Galil, both made by Action Arms Israeli Military Industries.
TEC-9, TEC-22 and TEC-DC9, manufactured by Intratec.
SWD M-10, M-11, M-11-9 and M-12. Based on the design of the MAC-10, their full-automatic cousin, these assault pistols are designed to fire many bullets over a wide area in seconds.
Street Sweeper and Striker 12 and other revolving cylinder semiautomatic shotguns.
Beretta AR-70 and SC-70, used by armed forces in a number of countries including Italy, Jordan and Malaysia.
Colt AR-15, the civilian version of the M-16 rifle that is the U.S. military's standard-issue rifle.
Several weapons manufactured by Fabrique Nationale, the FN-FAL, FN-LAR and FNC. The guns are used by the armed forces of more than 90 countries.
Steyr AUG, a rifle made in Germany." -link

-"Guns are the trademark of a barbaric society"-

Really. I wonder what you would think of Texas and Oklahoma durring Hunting season.

"The wrong hands" What is this supposed to mean?

You don't see people in every other civilized country carrying guns around! Sure, there are lots of people that are responsible with guns, but what about those that would be irresponsible?? There is too much risk involved.

-"Oh brother. Give me a break. People would not have the opportunity to shoot people without guns."-

Attend: Everybody on death row who paused to think, "Now if I actually shoot and kill this person, the state or the federal government might in turn kill me" stand up! Let’s not all get up at once.

If you can find one person on death row that actually said that they would not have committed the crime that landed them there had they thought they would actually get the death penalty, you should be President along with the current village idiot holding that office.

Deterrent? Please!

This country was built based on doing whatever you want, whenever you want, otherwise expressed as freedom. Penalties don't keep people from committing heinous acts. Penalties exist only to determine what to do with them once the acts been committed.
Get real!

I think some of you are missing a very vital point. CRIMINALS DO NOT FOLLOW THE LAW. When are people going to get this in their heads? A law banning assault weapons is only good if you follow it! There are so many ways you could get those guns if you were really determined, and didn't care about the law. All that law did was restrict LAW ABIDING CITIZENS from acquiring those guns. Law abiding citizens do not shoot people except in self defense.

Do you get it now? Does it make sense?

I think that you guys are missing the real point of the whole issue. The Clinton Assault Weapons ban didn't ban assaut weapons. Read this link to get an explaination

I don't think that you guys get the real point of the AWB (Assault Weapons Ban). If you look at the Ban, you will find that it doesn't ban Assault weapons at all. Assault weapons have the ability to go fully automatic, which means that if you pull the trigger bullets will be fired until you let go. The guns that the Ban banned were only semi automatic copies. That means that although they look identical to the real assault weapons, if you pull the trigger, only 1 bullet will go out. There is a big difference. In addition, the ordinary deer rifle is much more powerful and accurate than any assault rifle. Come to think about it, what is a deer rifle. Essentially it is a sniper rifle. It is often chambered in 30-06, 308, or .300, all of which have been used at some time in the US military sniping programs. Deer rifle are usually topped with scopes, to allow for better accuracy at longer ranges. Oh no, the American Public has access to ultra death ray accurate sniper rifles!!! They should be banned! Come on guys, get real. There is a saying in the hunting community that "they won't ever ban my deer rifle. They will call it a sniper rifle first." In the same way they won't ever ban my semi auto rifle they will call it an ""assault rifle."
