In the UK there is a new plan to help raise the grades of black boys in the public school system. They will be taught in another room, and pressure will be put upon them to make better grades. Also, if the child's father refuses to come to parents evening, they lose access to their son.
This is bizarre.

educating black males in UK? Russia? What?
There are a host of issues here and many chances at knee jerk reactions and sound-bite type comments. However, there is a problem with educating and socializing black males here in this country as well.
Take your shot at blaming the breakdown of fatherhood in the black community. The point is, there is a break down and we need to find a way to deal with - as, apparently does the UK.
My knee jerk reaction is special classes in the same school is problematic. Maybe try all male black schools. yea...stop it ..yea there are issues, but experience has show in this country that all black-male schools are successful with these youngsters. Maybe we could explore expanded all race/ all male schools for boys without in-home male role models. How do we fit this in with civil rights laws? I don't know, but there needs to be a discussion.
So what if it were just separating the underachievers regardless of the color of their skin? There are bound to be white underachievers, hispanic underachievers, etc.
I'm just rattling this around in my head....and still have a problem separating anyone based on the color of their skin. It is a slippery slope.
