As you probably already know, Scott Peterson has been moved to death row.
Do you think the he deserves the death penalty, and/or do you believe the death penalty is a justifiable form of punishment?
Thought this might be an interesting discussion to have.

Kill him. He murdured 2 humans that he used to love.
-"someone takes away someone else's life(with the exception of self defense) then I believe the murderer should give up his life in exchange for his actions"-
Question: War? A soldier in combat is not always reacting in self-defense, and one side is always the attacker. So, does a soldier who runs into a cave controlled by a terror cell, and begins firing with a machine gun, killing 5 without hesitating. Is this murduer?
I have some opinions on this developed after law school clerking and ghost writing death penalty habeus opinions. My heart goes with the Catholic life rule: no abortion and no capital punishment.
One does forfeit certain rights when he commits unjustified murder. I don’t think he forfeits his right to life, exactly, but he does forfeit his right to live in a civilized society. I do not believe in parole for murderers.
Other than morality issues, there are so many practical issues. It cost less to keep a man locked up for life than to put on a capital trial. We could do trials cheaper, but that would involve lessening our liberties and I don’t want that. The cost issue bothers me because we are victimized twice: once when the murderer does his deed and the second time when he forces upon us the expense of a capital trial. These trials can really drain small counties with limited budgets. I have seen small counties blow their budget on a capital trial for some jack&*% who killed someone and then the county is left with no money for thing like rape kits. So then all those women raped later in the year are victimized more when the county could not afford to save enough evidence to put the rapist away. I am really rambling?
And the racial issues….
For Scott, he is better of with death. With Cali’s system, he will have at least 20 years in his little private apartment before he goes. He will get his meals, get to read, exercise…ponder great questions of life….not have to worry about work, or clients…hey, I want on Cali death row. I heard that he got pancakes and bacon for breakfast his first day…and two women called to marry him! PLUS, on death row, he does not have to worry about man rape. I say just give him life in the pen and give him a cell with the biggest, gayest, most violent, smelly man that they have. “Boy, you got a pretty mouth.” – love, Lacey.
The soilder? Wow. That is a hard one. I believe in national defense and that war cannot be avoided sometimes. I also believe any war represents a failure of mankind to know and live by God’s teachings and plan. How do our individual actions fit into the overall failure? I don’t know. I do feel for the boys we send over to mid-east.
