Review: Ironman

I liked it. Watched it at 11pm last night, and surrounded by friends and fellow geeks, so my opinion may be somewhat inaccurate.

Basically, it's a comic book movie. But its a good one, well acted and with a semi-plausible hero powers. Pretty funny with great action, it's a good summer movie. I'll buy the DVD when it comes out.

That guy just has really cool armor. I didn't go to see Ironman--I'm not usually interested in movies--but I did go and see Expelled, did you? My favorite part was near the end where Stein had Dawkins completely at a loss and back peddling. It was so great that I laughted out loud and deeply embaressed the friends I had dragged along. *am grinning sheepishly and apologetically*

Alas, I stayed home over the weekend and watched Turner Classic Movies. My pick for the day was "Rebecca" from 1940. Black and white Gothic suspense at its best. Starring Lawrence Olivier and Joan Fontaine.

Even with Rebecca winning best picture, it still wasn't enough to give Hitchcock best director. He had to settle with a lifetime achievement award many years later.

Classifying usually: do not like movies at the theater. However, I do love movies at home, espicially TCM (Ace's terming them "girly movies" none-the-less). I also love Lawrence Olivier. To bad I missed "Rebecca" :(

Jeana, very cool Ironman.
I haven't seen expelled, I might pick up the DVD at some point later.

Gino, I figure if I enjoy reading it, then perhaps it's worth a shot. I didn't do nearly as well you do, but I'll work on that through the summer.

Sola, that sounds cheaper then my movie ticket. :D

Girlie Movies? Rebecca? I never thought that, but I guess if it involves romance of any kind, some might think it "girlie," but to me, the dark tone of the film is not "girlie" by any stretch of the imagination.

I love film noir from the 30s and 40s (even up to 1955, as long as it's black and white film). The Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep, Murder, My Sweet, Johnny O;Clock, Kiss Me Deadly, Out of the Past..etc. You get the idea. I can see myself now, in a black and white shadowy film at night, with fog blowing around. I'm dressed in a trench coat, with a hat pulled down over my brow and I'm driving a big Packard. The dashboard contains a secret trap door with a couple of pistols strapped there, ready for action....

Hmmm. Now I'm hungry for a big bowl of popcorn and a tall, icy glass of 7-UP.

It is sad that fewer and fewer people appreciate those great films. I would take a Bogart film any day over just about anything that has come out in my lifetime.

Ooops. Lest I forget, I must recommend "The Night of the Hunter," starring Robert Mitchum, Shelley Winters, Lillian Gish and Billy Chapin. Great story, great black and white surreal cinematography, and one of the best "false prophet/true Christian" stories you'll ever see.

You'll never hear "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms" the same again, LOL.

FAICA..

"On a morning from a Bogart movie

in a country where they turn back time

You go strolling through the crowd like Peter Lorre contemplating a crime..."

Name that tune.

Apparently "Year of the Cat" but alas I was not familiar and the magic that is Google supplied me with the answer. Thank you for giving me this . This is pretty cool.

welcome to it, palm boy, have at it.

i used to really take time and thought to craft a review. seems nobody noticed, so now i just bang it out and throw it against the wall.

you can see the differences in my first reviews compared to my later ones.
just keep in kind: like everything, your take is not somebody elses's take, so be honest to your own thoughts/feelings, and you'll never be wrong.
