Debate

In this season of debates, I was thinking of one that seems to keep popping up. So, I thought we might as well get it settled once and for all.
Here is the subject:
Should we legalize drugs, since the war against them is obviously being lost?

Rules: No ad hominems or red herrings allowed.

i think drugs should be allowed because so much money is spent on stopping drugs and its like wasted because fiting over drugs is not getting anywere.

I think that illegal drugs should stay illegal, because we may not be winning the fight on drugs, but we are not losing it either.

You all have interesting ideas. I have been reading and thinking about what you have said the last couple of days. As for someone's "right to do drugs", it would be naive to think that what someone did in their own home doesnt affect anyone else. I saw my brother who, when he was high, beat on my parents and then later think that his actions didn't affect anyone else. If I chose to do take drugs and while under its influence, drive my car and kill a family, I would be 100% responsible for my actions. If I beat my kids,or even verbally abuse them, it is MY responsibilty. The phrase "no man is an island, unto himself" means that we are all on this planet interacting with each other and whatever we do in a society has some impact on those around us. (whether we are conscious of it or not) To think that we can do whatever we want shows how "self involved" we are....that we can't face that our actions DO affect others outside the walls of our homes. Life is so short. Jack, I choose a different path than you. I don't sit in judgement of you at all....but I am concerned about you and the choice you are making.
