Iran wants to work with France

Story: "French nuclear company Areva SA could oversee uranium enrichment in Iran as a way to break a deadlock with the U.S. and other countries over its nuclear program, an Iranian official said.
``We propose that France create a consortium for the production in Iran of enriched uranium,'' Mohammad Saeedi, deputy head of Iran's nuclear agency, said in an interview with France Info radio. ``France, through Eurodif and Areva, can monitor our activities in a tangible way.''
The station carried his interview in Farsi with a French voiceover.
Iran ignored an Aug. 31 deadline set by the United Nations Security Council to freeze uranium enrichment or face the possibility of sanctions, prompting the U.S. to seek support for imposing penalties.
The U.S. alleges the work is aimed at developing nuclear weapons. The Iranian government says the program is peaceful and intended for nuclear power stations.
"

If the french accept this, and begin building the nuclear material for the Islamic Nazis, then they will forever be in the 'enemy' list for me. If they're thinking clear headed, they should say "No, we're not going to build a bomb for you that will lead to the death of millions of innocents". However, in the diplomatic interests of the world, they will probably accept.
Iran, and with it, North Korea and Terrorism, are the biggest outside threats we face today. China and Global warming? Please... Illegal immigration and federal spending? Those are the domestic threats we should be worried about, not hunting accedents.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least that the French would do this. Their disdain of the U.S. seems to outweigh even common sense.

Earth to France. Louis XIV died hundreds of years ago. Get over it.

"China...? Please..."
Was that directed at me, Palm Boy? I wasn't necessarily saying that China is the biggest threat we currently face, although they do have the biggest population and biggest military--which is becoming no longer primitive--of our current potential threats.
America clearly does have to prioritize its problems, though. That's why we went into Afghanistan first, and then the Bush administration felt that Iraq was the next eminent threat. Despite what the critics say, I won't say that they were wrong in their perceptions. For one thing, you Palm Boy pointed out in a post on immigration that Saddam did have WMDs, and he certainly was supporting terrorism. We will never know if he was the VERY NEXT eminent threat, because we eliminated that threat--at least the threat of Iraq and Saddam Hussein, although the terrorists are collecting there.
My point about places like China is that I can see the whole world beginning to line-up against America and Israel. Even places like Britain and Australia might not be supporting us if it weren't for their present leadership. The point is, we have to be very careful about snoozing in one area while we rage in another (like Iran).

Specifically in reference to Iran: I heard something along these lines somewhere that I thought was very clever:
"The President of Iran is sitting on the biggest source of fuel/energy [oil] in the world, and he's talking about the need of developing nuclear abilities for peaceful energy purposes. Yeah, right. He says he's dedicated to completely destroying and eliminating the U.S. and Israel, but he says he wants to develop nuclear abilities for peaceful reasons. YEAH, RIGHT."

Specifically in reference to the French: Uh, I don't have the facts in front of me. But I don't trust them at all [apologies to any trustworthy Frenchman or woman--I'm not referring to you], and I trust Jacques Chirac even less.

Kinda reminds me of when France helped Iraq build their nuclear reacter.

How did that story go again?
Oh...
That's right.
Israel blew it up.

On the flip side of this, I suppose that we could believe that France would mess it up so its not weapons grade... Yeah. Right. :D

KA, it wasn't directed at you. I'm just putting the issues at hand in perspective.
While terrorists are congregating in Iraq, it is better they do so there then here.

Your right, Iran has oil coming out the wazoo... What do they need nuke power for?

Jason, that would be an interesting twist in French/Isreali relations.

I, of course, totally agree with you. I merely was trying to cover all the bases so that someone wouldn't make a comment that I've heard a million times. Also, I wanted to make clear that we haven't eliminated the terrorist threat in Iraq, but rather we've eliminated the enemy's sovereign and national leadership (and military).

Another note on France: who else besides me thinks it's becoming more than conspicuous the way France has dealings with our enemies?

I'll jump with you. I think France is borderline with the terrorists.
