Bush and the French

Bush Praises French

Oh all the things...

Bush praises the french because of our 200 years of agreement.
I agree with Condi:
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice -- then Bush's national security adviser -- to reportedly suggest that after the war, the United States should "punish France, ignore Germany and reward Russia."

I am reminded of a Terry Allen song: “I may not wear a Stetson, but I’m willing to bet, son, that I’m as big a Texan as you are.” I don’t have a flag sticker or a ribbon sticker purchased from Wal-Mart on my car, but I am as big an American as anyone and I see no need to punish the French, ignore the Germans or reward the Russians. Such actions will only cause further harm. We have to learn to deal with Europe and their increasing power on better terms than those demanded by the Bush administration.

Feetman78,
I can't say that I completely understand your post. 1) I, too, do not have a flag sticker on my car nor do I think it would make me a redneck or something, if I did. I don't have that need to judge who is more patriotic.
2) What "further harm" is caused by "punishing the French....." ? It seems that their actions reveal plenty about them. They could care less about human rights being trampled (like in Iraq) as long as they are able to sustain a high standard of living (profitting from their oil). I'd have to say that I agree more with Liz on this......

I do not mean to label anyone a “redneck”. Perhaps my comment about car stickers was more personal than need be posted. But I still cannot agree with the quote. (1) It seems to take on an unnecessary paternalistic attitude. (2) Punish the French? Perhaps the French/Iraqi and German/Iraqi trade needs to be addressed, but I don’t see where we have the moral high road or the authority to admonish the French and Germans like children. They are more interested in their bank accounts than terrorism? Maybe, but I don’t believe our country is purely of altruistic motive. (3) And ignore the Germans? I don’t even know what that means. I know that we should not ignore Germany on any account. (4) Reward the Russians? Is there any weapon the Russians would not sell to Iran? No need for reward there. (5) I don’t think we are in Iraqi for the common Iraqi’s sake. I know we care more about our bank accounts than the Iraqi’s. That they may be helped by what we are doing – wonderful. But, I have have no illusionsas to why we are there. Don’t get me wrong – I am not saying we have evil intentions, but only that we are not trying to be the world’s Batman fighting for truth justice and the American way. We need a more cooperative approach to dealing with Europe and that is not in line with the quote.

Come on Liz.... french and other european countries may have made money with iraqis, but actually, american companys are far more present now in iraq that they used to be and they're making huge profits over the "war on terror".
Besides, please don't forget that the US helped a lot saddam in 1984 during iran-iraq war, selling them weapons and giving away military intelligence to defeat the iranians...
So i think that european companies, as well as american companies are quite happy with the world as it is, because they can make money without being disturbed...for one time money'll be for one side, the other time for the other side, that's it !

Moreover, please i don't understand what u say about france tightening its restrictions on freedom...we've been having a "layman" republic from 1789 ( concept u don't know in the united states...french state doesn't have any link with religion whatsoever) so a law on headscarves is just about to reinforce this idea of not wearing headscarves at school, because it is a public place and so it should be a "non"-religious place...

I'm afraid of your level of misinformation... are you doing it on purpose or are you just misinformed ?

I don't see why everybody should bend over United states approval...
if any country was to apply the rules the US stated about Weapons of mass destruction and potential threat, a whole lot of countries could make a coalition do go and take out your president and install a true democracy... ;-D
