Rubber band: Weapon of War

Article

A 13 year old is suspended because he gave his teacher a rubber band.

"Rojas said she was shocked to learn that her son was being punished for a Level 4 offense -- the highest Level at the school. Other violations that also receive level 4 punishment include arson, assault and battery, bomb threats and explosives, according to the Code of Student Conduct"

Overreaction, I think. Pretty surprising, even for America---land of the free and home of the frivolous lawsuits.

I agree. So called "Zero TOlerance" policies can produce harsh and unfair results.

Wanna hear about something really insane? One Polish school couldn't come to grips with an ADHD boy, so they decided to simply call the police. School can actually be a great place...

Ah, the wonderful degradation of society. First chicken fingers, then rubber bands, then cheesy punchlines.

Not to offend, but in my experience(10 years) those who claim that we are overrun with frivoulous lawsuits either (1) don't know what they are talking about because they have never taken a serious look at the the legal systems and take their opinion from bad and/or sensaionalistic journalism, or (2) they are wrongdoers trying to escape liability. The vast majority of lawsuits that i see have some merit on both sides. Truely frivouplous lawsuits do not get very far in court. Most of the truely frivoulous claims that I have seen come from pro se parties and those are rare in the borad scheme of things. I have on occasion revieved a lawsuit from a lawyer that I felt had no merit. After I explained that I would immediately seek sanctions and costs, the suit went away very fast.
