Cow vs. the SUV

Story: "As Congress begins to tackle the causes and cures of global warming, the action focuses on gas-guzzling vehicles and coal-fired power plants, not on lowly bovines.

Yet livestock are a major emitter of greenhouse gases that cause climate change. And as meat becomes a growing mainstay of human diet around the world, changing what we eat may prove as hard as changing what we drive.

It's not just the well-known and frequently joked-about flatulence and manure of grass-chewing cattle that's the problem, according to a recent report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Land-use changes, especially deforestation to expand pastures and to create arable land for feed crops, is a big part. So is the use of energy to produce fertilizers, to run the slaughterhouses and meat-processing plants, and to pump water.

"Livestock are one of the most significant contributors to today's most serious environmental problems," Henning Steinfeld, senior author of the report, said when the FAO findings were released in November.
"

mm... Beef.
Well, for more details, you can read the story. But I think that last paragraph sums it up nicely. Cows are worse then SUVs, Cars, Trains, airplanes, and buses, combined.
So, it is now obvious that we must stop eating meat. And stop driving.

Hey, its for a good cause. :D

It's maddening, isn't it?

One thing we must understand about global socialism advocates, Palm Boy. They want us all to be equal.

Equally poor.

P.S. They'd also be very happy if we would accept the Hindu concept that bovines are sacred, thereby turning the streets of Chicago into a Calcutta look-alike. Can you imagine bathing in the Chicago River once a year in honor of the Ganges?

(shudder)

Equally poor, indeed. :D

Gah.. That would be nasty.

the problem is not beef.
it is beef standing around, creating gasous winds.

we must eat more beef, more often, even veal, to prevent them from creating excess winds.

I was driving behind a clunker that put out quite a smoke and now reading this post I dunno which is worse, clunker fumes or cow gas:o) Nevertheless, the enviros are right, let's move back from progress by stop driving.

no,no,no mercy!
we must drive.
drive the cattle to market, to save the planet.

No Gino, we must STOP progress and start walking to our destinations and if they are across the seas then we make row boats w/ sails to cross the Atlantic or Pacific. Yes, the world economy will come to a hault but hey we are saving the enviro, NOT.

but then how are we to get the cattle to market?
now i'm confused.
need less cattle.
must eat them.
cant drive them.
we'll have to hunt them,then.

Ever hear the song "Born Free" from the movie about the Adamsons and Elsa the Lioness? Rush Limbaugh did a parody of it...

"Eat beef..for beef is delicious
Beef is nutritious.."
