7-11: Score 1 for America

Forbes: "The sulfur Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez smells these days isn't the residue of George Bush at the United Nations, but profits from the sale of fuel to 7-Eleven stores going poof.
The convenience store operator is dropping Citgo, a subsidiary of Venezuela's government-owned oil company, at about 2,100 stores.

...
The decision follows Chavez's strident denunciation of Bush last week at the United Nations.
Chavez made it clear that he thought Bush was a racist, imperialist "devil" out to oppress the world's poor -- when he wasn't killing them.
Standing at the podium where Bush had earlier addressed the United Nations General Assembly, Chavez said he could smell sulfur -- the scent of the devil.
Convenience store chain 7-Eleven said it feared a boycott of Citgo would hurt about 4,000 7-Eleven employees who have nothing to do with Chavez or his politics.
The company's 20-year contract with Citgo Petroleum Corp. ends next week. It covers about 2,100 of 7-Eleven's 5,300 stores in the United States. The retailer has considered creating its own brand of fuel for more than a year.
"Regardless of politics, we sympathize with many Americans' concern over derogatory comments about our country and its leadership recently made by Venezuela's president Hugo Chavez," said Margaret Chabris, a spokeswoman for 7-11.
"

So, 7-11 drops communist oil, and scores one for the home team, doing what the democrats won't do, and rebuking Hugo Chavez for his Anti-American, and evil comments. 3 cheers for 7-11.

I am glad to see an American company take this stance. What Chavez is doing is straight out of the Vladimir Lenin/Leon Trotsky/Joseph Stalin playbook. Pander to the so-called poor and downtrodden to accomplish your larger agenda. The intent is to foment unrest against your target government.

People ought to read the Communist Manifesto as well as the writings of other communist leaders. It would be educational and would help them spot the nonsense as soon as it's mouthed.

If more had taken Adolf Hitler's "Mein Kampf" seriously, Nazi Germany would never have gotten off the ground. In that book, Hitler clearly spelled out his plans and people wrote it off as a joke. As the world soon discovered, ol' "Dolf" wasn't kidding.

That's awesome! I found his comments outrageous (as did many), and have hoped there would be backlash because of them.

I heard this, and I'm pumped! Way to go 7-11! Although this may be merely a business move to protect itself (and not a political statement), as long as they do it, it's a good thing.

Although there aren't any 7-11s in my area, and though 7-11 is right when it says that the low-level employees don't have anything to do with Chavez's politics, I'd still support a campaign FOR 7-11 and a boycott AGAINST Citgo, as a statement of principle. Like I said, I wouldn't want to hurt any of Citgo's gas-station employees, but the fat-cats at the top could stand to learn a lesson about dealing with the enemy. Maybe, then, we could get off Venezuelan oil completely.

Ya know, it doesn't matter whether you like the Pres or not because of his foreign policies, but when a dictator of an oppressive regime comes to this country and calls our Pres names, all Americans should be offended. This Chavez guy like Cuba's Castro is one who have hit squads and plenty of human rights abuses.
