Undeniable truths in life: Part 1

#1: There is a distinct singular American culture - rugged individualism and self-reliance - which made America great.

Hey, what other place in the world has come so far, so fast, in such a short time? Nowhere. After less then 200 years, America was, and still is on top of the world. Why? Because Americans are self-reliant and willing to strike out on their own. The Pioneers, the gold miners, the cowboys, and the businessman of today, all wanted to make it on their own, and in doing so, created a better nation for the rest of us.

The culture of "I can do it" is different then any other nation, and we are better because of it.

Americans might have been self reliant before, but the culture has changed. We're happy to sit back and let the government take care of things, or to sit back and critique the government, rather than stand up and do something ourselves.

Hasty generalzation. While a portion of our country is willing ot sit back on their haunches and let the government take care of them, we still have a culture of self-determination, and its called the american way.

While this spirit may have been lost in the East and West coast of our nation, the heartland still has this spirit.

It could just as easily be said that your original post was a hasty generalization. Certain Americans may be self reliant, but you generalized that most are that way, and that that is still a part of our culture. I say it isn't.

I do believe that most of the culture is that way. If you look at the electoral map,(the one with the counties), the vast majority of it is red, the color of conservatives. The Republican party is one for limited government (usually), and stands for letting folks strike out on their own, and determine there own destiny. While there are some pockets of lazy bums, it does not permeate the entire culture like it does in a place like France or Russia.
