China is bald.

Story: "Chinese Foreign ministry officials have told a visiting U.S. diplomat that China's successful test of an anti-satellite weapon should not be seen as a threat and does not signal the beginning of a race to militarize space, the State Department said Monday.

Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill raised the issue with Chinese officials over the weekend in Beijing. China has not made a public announcement of the Jan. 11 test, in which it shot down one of its own old weather satellites, but officials acknowledged it during their meeting with Hill, State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said.
"

Why is China bald? Because they just lied with a bald face... Holy cow. Shooting down a satilite with a weapon does not signal a start to a space weapons war?
Crazy Commies.

China is like N Korea and Iran when it comes to their words, they mean nothing.

You know how to tell whether or not a commie is lying? His lips are moving.

When you consider China's moves (keep in mind that they also control the Canal Zone now), Fathead Chavez in Venezuela, Ahmadinejad in Iran, and an increasingly aggressive regime in Russia, it ought to be plain that these circling vultures are maybe not our friends?

Take out our spy satellites and that makes us blind to any ICBM launch. Blow an EMP weapon in the atmosphere, and that shorts out our electronics etc.

We could well be in for a surprise attack.

We (we being Americans) are not nearly worried enough about China. We have documented that they are massively understating their reports of military expenditures, they are improving their nuclear arsenal, a general has publicly stated that they are willing to lose half their population in a nuclear war and now they are building space weapons.

It probably isn't the beginning of a new cold war in space... but it should be.

Raben, we're not worried about china for a few reasons.

1. We're trading partners. They have so much invested in our economy, and us in theirs. Wars are fought over reasources, and niether of our nations wants to loose that money.
2. No one has challenged our air superiority since the day's of Vietnam, and even then we ruled the skys. China's air force is not in a position to do this either.
3. Nukes are not going to be used in a war. Mutually Assured Destruction worked with the russians, and will work with the Chinese.

The only concieveable reason I can see for us going to war is over Taiwan, and I worry that we do not have the stomach to protect that island nation.

Not to say we should not be concerned with China, but would you object if you found out that we were devoloping means to take out chinese satellites that were spying on us?

Concerning Tiawan, why should we protect it? What makes America the global policeman, I'd say that's the reason so much of the world hates us. We try to control their lives.

Would I object? No, I wouldn't. If we're armed for the future, so much the better.

Tiawan? We should not stand by and watch one of the precious few free nations of the world succum to the vile communist chinese.
The rest of the world hates us... Whatever. Please show some polls or something to back that up.
We do not control their lives. If we did, we'd be like the Romans, and acctually have dominion over the known world. Rather, we let people live their own lives.

So we can have weapons and power, but they can’t. Do you realize to enormous power this gives the U.S. Government? Remember the phrase “With great power comes great responsibility”, the only problem is great power corrupts. In more cases than not, with great power comes great Irresponsibility.

Why should we stand by and watch? Because that was what our country was based on.

“Why forego the advantages of so peculiar a situation?--Why quit our own to stand upon foreign ground?--Why by interweaving our destiny with that of any part of Europe, entangle our peace and prosperity in the toils of European ambition, rivalship, interest, humour or caprice?”
- in his farewell address George Washington

You would like polls? Here is a BBC one.
The proportion of people believing the United States has a mainly positive influence in world affairs dropped seven points from a year ago -- to 29 percent from 36, the results from 18 countries that were also polled the previous year showed.
I’m pretty sure they didn’t interview many terrorists either.
As to the reason, there are anywhere from 190-240 countries in the world depending on who is doing the counting, in only about 20 of those would you be comfortable with your freedom. America gives aid to over 100 countries, that means we fund over 80 oppressive governments. i.e. Saddam Hussein, Stalin, President Diem, Shah of Iran, Batista in Cuba, General Park in Korea, the list goes on. Since 1898, every president, both democrat and republican, has ordered American troops onto foreign ground. During the 20th century alone, US forces were sent into foreign conflicts no less than 188 times. If you don’t believe me go here:

Possible the best example of U.S. interference in others affairs is the Philippine-American war.

U.S. causalities: 1,000-1,500 due to actual combat, total 4,324.
Philippine causalities: est. from 20,000 due to actual combat, 250,000 to 1,000,000 total.

Talk about slaughter. Cause of the war? We bought the Philippines from Spain for 20,000,000 U.S.D. The Philippines, however, had already declared their independence, so we invaded. A few other facts, Roosevelt’s 1902 Brigandage art defined any group of more than three Filipino men as bandits, punishable with up to 20 years in prison or death, General Jacob H. Smith said: “"I want no prisoners. I wish you to kill and burn, the more you kill and burn the better it will please me…”

Just read through wikipedia’s article on it and you will understand a very important fact: the Bill of Rights, the check on our government, stops at the border.
