W. Virginia tries to make law on making English its official language

Link
Their legislation was vetoed because of a "technical error" but they might try again.
Do you think English should be the state's official language?

I think this is a rather interesting issue.....

While this is an interesting state to have this happen, the language this nation has used for more then 200 years is English. However, the school systems are now more worried about multi-cultralism and teaching those who don't understand english in their own laguage so they don't have to learn english in order to get an education.

I have some friends who were adopted from russia, and their parents sent them to private school, to force them to learn in english. Among other reasons, they didn't go to the public schools because the kids would not be forced to learn english, and it is hard to go very far in this country without know what is essentially the national language.

A law to preserve our language...uh...you mean Spanish? The language has been historically Spanish. These English only laws are not only ridiculous and stupid, but hurtful. It seem there is no end to how dominant white people will try and hurt others. It is shameful and embarassing.

Our languages (in Texas) have always has been, since killing the natives, Spanish and then English. Any law needs to preserve both, not just one. I really don't see a need to make Spanish and English "official" languages.

see the thing is our nation was founded as an English speaking nation and these people came to OUR Country because they liked their freedoms not being usurped by other governmental powers. I don’t mind having people who enjoy their freedom live in this country I don’t mind them speaking their own languages. But Americans speak English so...
